Dan Heng — Honkai Star Rail Character Guide
Wind Hunt DPS · MoC T5 · PF T5 · AS T5
Overview
Early-game single-target DPS with conditional Wind RES PEN from Talent and a Slow-empowered Ultimate. Falls off sharply in late-game without significant eidolon investment as his base multipliers cannot keep pace with modern content.
Single-target Wind Hunt DPS who relies on Slowing enemies via Skill crits to empower his Ultimate (400% ATK base, 520% when target is Slowed). His Talent grants 36% Wind RES PEN when an ally explicitly targets him with an Ability, on a 2-turn cooldown. High base SPD (110) with a 50% chance for +20% SPD after each attack makes him naturally fast. Low 100 Energy Ultimate cost enables frequent casting, but aligning Slow uptime with Ultimate timing is the core gameplay challenge.
Key Mechanics
- Slow application requires CRIT hits on the 4-hit Skill. At 70% CRIT Rate, the probability of at least one crit across 4 hits is ~99.2%, making Slow nearly guaranteed. Below 50% CRIT Rate, Slow becomes unreliable.
- Talent RES PEN requires an ally to explicitly target Dan Heng with a Skill (blue reticle). Abilities that passively affect all allies (Yukong's Roaring Bowstrings, Preservation Trailblazer's Talent, passive regeneration) do NOT trigger it.
- SP negative playstyle from Skill-every-turn creates team building constraints — at least one teammate must be SP-positive. Sunday, Bronya, and Tingyun all consume SP when buffing Dan Heng, compounding the issue.
- Low 100 Energy Ultimate cost combined with 110 base SPD and A4 SPD boost enables very frequent Ultimates. With energy support from Tingyun or Huohuo, near back-to-back Ultimates are achievable.
Best Teams for Dan Heng
Single-Target Hypercarry
Maximize Dan Heng's turn count and Ultimate uptime via action advancers while ensuring Slow is applied for the 520% Ultimate multiplier. Use Sunday or Bronya to grant extra turns. High SPD (via substats and A4 proc) and the 100 Energy Ultimate cost create a rapid Skill-Ultimate rotation. Best in Memory of Chaos against single bosses or Elite plus adds waves where Dan Heng can focus one target.

Investment Priority
- E1 — Provides a meaningful CRIT Rate boost for the first half of fights, helping reliably apply Slow via Skill crits. First recommended stop.
- E2 — Reduces Talent cooldown by 1 turn — doubles Wind RES PEN uptime from ~33% to ~67%. Most impactful eidolon for sustained damage output.
- LC S1 — Get In the Night after eidolons are settled — SPD stacking synergizes with A4 SPD proc and rewards the high-SPD playstyle.

Important Notes
- Single-target only with no AoE — cannot compete in Pure Fiction and struggles in multi-enemy MoC waves without Welt assistance.
- Talent RES PEN requires an ally to explicitly target Dan Heng with a Skill (blue reticle required). Passive regeneration effects and Preservation Trailblazer's Talent do not activate it.
- Slow application requires CRIT hits on the 4-hit Skill. At below 70% CRIT Rate, inconsistent Slow leads to missing the 520% Ultimate multiplier.
- SP-negative playstyle from Skill-every-turn conflicts with SP-negative supports. Plan at least one SP-positive slot in the team.
- Limited endgame viability — any limited 5-star Hunt DPS will significantly outperform at the same investment level. Avoid heavy eidolon investment beyond E2.
